Job Description
Integrated Talent Strategies (ITS) is seeking a EHS Specialist to work in the Birmingham area. This position offers a variety of great benefits, including health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off. Salary range is $65, 000 to $85, 000.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Ensure Division's Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures are consistently applied based on the principles of the Corporate and Divisional Health, Safety and Environmental Policy, as well as being in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, including OSHA, EPA and IDNR
- Ensure a safe work environment by coordinating all safety activities to reduce workplace accidents and protect associates
- Review all accident/incident investigation reports and provide leadership in developing and implementing corrective actions
- Coordinate the selection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate fit testing of such items
- Monitor new and amended legislation and remain current with the latest health, safety and environmental requirements
- Monitor Safety Date Sheets (SDS) and ensure they are updated
- Promote and practice " safety first by immediately addressing any hazards, defective equipment or unsafe conditions within the department
- Establish written safety standards and annually update and review these policies and procedures
- Provide and maintain statistics to assist in continuous improvement in the area of workplace safety and loss control
- Coordinate and lead activities for the Magna Health and Safety audit
Environmental
- Conduct monthly safety and environmental audits and report results to division management
- Maintain and report on status of the Environmental Management System per ISO-14001 requirements
- Maintain statistical information on waste streams
- Conduct sampling as required to comply with environmental regulations
- Coordinate sampling, transportation and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams
- Investigate ways to reduce waste and environmental liability
- Coordinate recycling program, spill control team and emergency response team
- Coordinate and lead activities for the Magna Environmental audit and ISO14001 audit
Qualifications
- Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Must be a team player and promote a team approach to problem solving
- Highly self motivated and flexible
- Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects, and of working flexible hours in order to meet both internal and external customer requirements
- Able to use computer and software as required
- Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor of Science degree in safety engineering, ergonomics or a related discipline is preferred
- 4+ years' experience in health, safety and environmental field, in a manufacturing environment
