The world of cleaning and maintenance moves fast we're looking for a Chief Science Officer (CSO) who moves faster. In the race to formula innovations and new technologies, Betco and its subsidiaries need a dynamic and experienced CSO to develop a Research & Development (R&D) roadmap, provide leadership and technical expertise to Chemists, Quality Control, and Regulatory staff, and drive quality outcomes that exceed expectations and help us cross the finish line first all while addressing emerging regulatory changes that could serve as potential roadblocks. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with the leadership team to develop strategic objectives. Recommends and manages projects to achieve these goals.
Builds relationships with suppliers and continuously evaluates emerging technologies, practices, and products in the marketplace that may affect core businesses or result in new opportunities.
Formulates and executes research projects for improvement and cost reduction of existing products and the development of new products, processes, raw materials, and business technologies. Consults with stakeholders, prepares progress reports, and recommends the addition, expansion, or discontinuation of projects.
Defines, develops, and supervises the plans and projects of R&D, Microbiology, Quality Control, and Regulatory Teams. Schedules people and activities in accordance with organizational priorities. Drives a culture of accountability and superior performance in the areas of research and product development and improvement.
Controls research and regulatory expenditures within approved limits. Establishes best practices within the R&D and Quality Control labs to ensure compliance standards are met.
Responsible for regulatory compliance with EPA, FDA, HACCP Food Safety, OSHA (lab functions), ATF, and Federal and State regulations.
Stays apprised of regulation changes and new regulations being introduced.
Technically teaches and trains others through hands-on demonstration of formulation benchwork.
Has familiarity with effective Change Control Processes.
Establishes monthly reporting standards to ensure quality and efficiency standards and schedules are met.
Participates with government representatives during onsite or written correspondence for regulatory compliance.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
BS in Chemistry, Biology, or Microbiology
7 to 10 years of leadership experience of formulators and/or microbiologists
7 to 10 years of formulation experience in cleaning, coatings, and/or personal care
REQUIRED SKILLS
Laboratory best practices for a R&D and Quality Control labs
Knowledge and experience with EPA, FDA, HACCP (Food Safety), Federal and State Regulations, cGMP, OSHA and CPS
Familiarity and knowledge with analytical instrumentation, such as FTIR, Gas Chromatograph, and HPLC
Knowledge and ability to teach and train on wet chemistry testing to include titrations, PH determinations, foam testing, solids determinations, and refractometer readings
Demonstrated project management skills
7 years of R&D in microbial technologies
