Job Description

Integrated Talent Strategies (ITS) is seeking a Controls Engineer to work in the Columbus, OH area. This position offers a variety of great benefits, including health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
Position Summary: Selects hardware and develops software for PLC’s, HMI’s, variable frequency drives, robotics, control and communications networks, and other miscellaneous equipment as needed. Provides direction, communication and support throughout design and production stages to all necessary departments and individuals. Ensures and maintains safety and quality of electrical systems in order to assist in delivering the best product to customers.

                                  

Role qualifications:
  • Must be able make decisions and work unsupervised with little guidance.
  • Must be familiar with Company quality objectives and play an active role in reaching continuous improvement objectives.
  • Be aware of the relevance and importance of their activities and how they contribute to the achievement of quality objectives.

 

Position responsibilities:
  • Develops, or modifies existing PLC and HMI programs from customer requirements, primarily Rockwell.
  • Develops, or modifies existing Robot programs primarily ABB and Fanuc.
  • Creates or modifies electrical drawings.
  • Provides guidance to assembly during build Phase of Equipment
  • Aides Field service technicians and customers in installation, programming, repair, and maintenance of Automation systems.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and various components suppliers to create scalable hardware and software systems.
  • Works as part of a cross-functional team on projects. 
  • Provides supervision and mentoring to engineering interns.
  • Maintains records of work in process as well as completed projects.
  • Takes initiative to meet challenging project timelines and budgets (hours and material).
  • Provides technical assistance for project Quoting.
  • Assists in compiling documentation for service manuals.
  • Assists in on site startup as necessary.

 

Essential skills and experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Electrical Engineering related discipline or an Associate’s degree and equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in programming PLCs and HMIs from Rockwell and occasionally others.
  • Knowledge of servo motion controls systems and/or robot motion control.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or Solidworks Electrical.
  • Advanced level ability to write software in Rockwell and comfortable learning different programming languages.
  • Aptitude and Desire for learning new things.
  • Ability to work with non-technical customers.
  • Six years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Occasional travel is required. (max 20%)

Nonessential skills and experience:
  • An understanding of A3 and NEC standards is preferred. 
  • Network programming and troubleshooting experience is preferred.
  • Experience in automation and robotics is preferred.
  • An understanding of Ethernet IP and CIP Safety is preferred.
  • Programming experience for ABB and/or Fanuc is desired.
