Primary Responsibilities Our Client has an immediate full-time opening for a mechanical engineer to support a Southeast Michigan client in the facility engineering department on multi-discipline projects. The mechanical engineer' s role entails being a coordinator on a number of facility projects within the client' s headquarters facility in Auburn Hills, MI. This individual will become involved immediately upon a client (ie, department or customer) request for change. The mechanical engineer will visit the client, understand and document the needs, create a scope of work, assist in creating a construction cost estimate, provide the technical design of the mechanical utilities, components and the systems, and the documentation needed to construct the project. The mechanical engineer will stay involved, working directly with the construction team through completion of the installation.   Essential Functions Scope Development Phase:
  • Attend all meetings with the client during scope development.
  • Collect and organize questions from client and facility engineering staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of the preliminary project schedule.
  • Create a bill of materials and construction cost estimate(s) for project approval.
Design Phase:
  • Prepare mechanical drawings and specifications as required.
  • Facilitate design review meetings with the client.
  • Collaborate and provide direction to internal and off-site design professionals.
  • Document and monitor open issues.
Project Administration:
  • Complete required documentation to process work.
  • Track projects and update as required.
  • Help establish design schedule to complement construction.
Construction Phase:
  • Answer questions from the construction trades.
  • Provide follow-up as required to see a project through completion.
Competencies and Skills
  • Ensure conformance to construction drawings (On-Site.)
  • Conduct necessary field investigations and observations during scope definition, design, and construction. Prepare concise reports and distribute in a timely manner.
  • Analytical thinking skills.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with individuals in all roles; customers, design professionals, construction trades.
  • Strong mechanical/technical engineering knowledge.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software, e.G., Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Computer aided design and drafting (CADD) design experience is a plus, Microstation or AutoCAD.
